The City of Brno features some magnificent buildings and architecture. The Czech Republic was once the richest country in Europe - prior to the First World War - and that wealth established itself as opulence in its buildings. Many of those buildings were somewhat ignored until recently when European money started to pour into the country and the city. Many buildings have now been restored to something of their former glory.

Taking a short walk through the city center, one can see many interesting buildings and features of this industrial city. One only has to walk from the main railway/tram station up Masarykova towards Namesti Svoboda and then back down Minoritska (to see many examples).

On Masarykova, take note of what is above eye level. Such as this facade;

Entering into the main square - Namesti Svobody - take a look at some of the buildings surrounding the square such as these;

One of the buildings in the Square features some beautiful statues as if holding up the structure;

The wide square features many interesting buildings but you should turn right and then right again down Minoritska Street where you will find several churches worth a visit and eventually end up where you started. I will feature the churches of Minoritska Street in a later blog entry.
